MENTOR AWARD

Teach Kentucky recruits and supports new teachers. Each fall we see the value of mentors who freely share their wisdom and experience with our teachers. We know this is true for all new teachers, and without this guidance, many would not make it to the end of the year.

The Teach Kentucky Mentoring Award is intended to applaud those who extend themselves to help new teachers in the most profound and personal ways. Often they are unsung heroes down the hall who know just when to extend a hand of friendship or a useful lesson plan.

Please nominate a mentor who has added value to the quality of teaching in your school, or to you personally. We are hopeful you will share the specific ways a mentor nurtured you in the beginning of your teaching career.

A committee of Teach Kentucky teachers will judge the submissions and award two $500 awards to the mentors who impress the committee with their thoughtfulness, professionalism, effectiveness, and empathy toward new teachers.

There are several details to keep in mind. First, the winner must be available to attend the awards ceremony which is a part of the Teach Kentucky Welcome Reception June 25. In the event a potential winner cannot attend, the committee will pass to the next available recipient. Second, the nominee must be a Jefferson County Public School employee currently working in a middle or high school setting. Finally, we are very grateful to Jefferson County School Board member Steve Imhoff for supporting this award and arranging the funding for the prizes. The award is made possible by a grant from the Ethel O'Brien Field of Interest Fund - Stephen Imhoff, Advisor.

Thank you for your mentor nomination.

Sincerely,
Rowan Claypool
