Phase IV

Thank you for applying to Teach Kentucky. The application process outlined in the application checklist is the integration of three separate and distinct activities:

  • Application for employment as a teacher in Jefferson/Shelby/Spencer/Henry County Public Schools
  • Application for admission to University of Louisville's College of Education and Human Development's Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program (also referred to as an alternative route to certification)
  • Application for the Teach Kentucky program benefits from the alumni sponsors of the program

The strategic partners have endeavored to unify these three processes, but it is YOUR responsibility to meet the qualifications of each one. You will be receiving communications directly from each of the entities as you proceed through the application process. 1. Praxis Results


Please complete the Teach Kentucky application before submitting your Praxis II results.



2. Report GRE Results

3. Visit Louisville


Candidates that have received a preliminary Letter of Interest from the District(s), accepted through the Declaration of Interest, and taken the Praxis II exams may be invited to visit Louisville. The two day trips are typically scheduled beginning the Saturday evening of the Praxis exams through the following Monday afternoon. Candidates are flown into town and housed at the District’s expense. On Sunday, Candidates are treated to a tour of the city and an evening with local alumni sponsors. On Monday, Candidates are allowed to observe in a classroom and hosted to a luncheon meeting with the University of Louisville's College of Education and Human Development and JCPS/Shelby officials.



4. Transfer of Certification

From the Education Professional Standards Board:

Out-of-state applicants must have completed a state approved teacher preparation program
at a regionally accredited educator preparation institution or a state-approved alternative
training program. In addition, candidates must comply with the state ancillary requirements
such as GPA, testing and internship.

Out-of-state applicants who hold a valid certificate and have completed two years of
teaching in the subject area and grade level on their certificate will be waived of the current
testing requirements.

All out-of-state applicants MUST:

Request and complete a TC-1 (.pdf) application.
Forward this application to your college for the completion of Section IV on page 5 of the TC-1 (.pdf) application.
Submit a certified check or money order in the amount of $50.00 made payable to the Kentucky State Treasurer
Passing Praxis II Specialty Area test scores for EACH area of certification (if less than two years of appropriate full-time teaching experience) and the Principles of Learning and Teaching test score for appropriate grade range

Have Section II completed by your superintendent, if you have out-of-state teaching experience.

Have OFFICIAL transcripts of all college and graduate coursework sent to:

5. Complete UofL Application


Please complete the University of Louisville’s application packet as soon as possible.

Teach Kentucky candidates who hold or are receiving certicifation in another state may transfer their certification to Kentucky provided they meet certian criteria established by the Education and Professional Standards Board in Frankfort, KY. Please contact them immediately to understand what will be required to complete the transfer. This is critical information to report to your potential school employers.
