Phase III

Thank you for applying to Teach Kentucky. The application process outlined in the application checklist is the integration of three separate and distinct activities:

  • Application for employment as a teacher in Jefferson/Shelby/Spencer/Henry County Public Schools
  • Application for admission to University of Louisville's College of Education and Human Development's Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program (also referred to as an alternative route to certification)
  • Application for the Teach Kentucky program benefits from the alumni sponsors of the program

The strategic partners have endeavored to unify these three processes, but it is YOUR responsibility to meet the qualifications of each one. 2. Writing Proficiency - UofL

The State Certification Office requires that teacher education candidates be proficient in written communication. If you have not completed a traditional, second semester, English composition course, then you must provide documentation supporting proficiency in written communication. One way to meet this requirement is to score a 3.5 or higher on the writing portion of the GRE General Test. You may also provide a syllabus, which describes a research paper requirement, for a particular course in which you received a grade of "C" or higher. 3. Public Speaking Proficiency - UofL

The State Certification Office requires that teacher education candidates be proficient in speech communication. If you have not completed a college-level course entitled "speech communication" or "interpersonal skills" or something similar, then you must provide supporting documentation to the College of Education and Human Development. If you have given a presentation in a college course (or courses), and earned at least a grade of "C" in that course, then you should provide a syllabus which outlines the presentation as a requirement for the course. If you cannot support proficiency in speech communication, then you will have to take the Speech Proficiency Examination through the College of Education and Human Development.
